Head coach of English Premier League side Sunderland remains among the key contenders for the role of English national team coach, following the resignation of former boss Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson resigned his post after the abysmal performance the English national team recorded at the ongoing Euro 2016 in France, despite promises.

Sunderland might lose Sam Allardyce if he is picked for the role as he is believed to be among the major contenders to clinch the job as manager of the Three Lions. The Football Association are yet to make any announcement about the role since setting up a three man panel to select a suitable candidate. The Under 21 team coach Gareth Southgate has ruled himself out from the list of possible contenders, even for the short while pending the selection of a permanent replacement.
